Who We See

Immediate Capacity – Now Accepting New Referrals

We are dedicated to providing dietary support that enhances the quality of life for our elderly clients. We provide in-home and Telehealth dietitian services to the aged population in residential aged care homes and to clients who are on the Support at Home program. Nutrition plays a vital role in supporting the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults. As we age, our nutritional needs change, and factors like reduced appetite, chronic health conditions, or difficulty preparing meals can make it harder to eat well. This can lead to health consequences such as unintended weight loss and an increased risk of malnutrition, which may affect strength, energy, and recovery from illness. A balanced and enjoyable diet can help maintain physical and mental wellbeing, prevent decline, and support older adults to stay active and independent for longer.

Areas of Practice

At VK Dietetics, we specialise in supporting the unique nutritional needs of older adults.
Our areas of practice include:
  • Unintentional Weight Loss: We work to identify causes of weight loss and implement practical dietary strategies to promote weight maintenance or weight gain.
  • Diabetes: We provide tailored nutrition strategies to help manage blood glucose levels and reduce complications.
  • Malnutrition: We use validated screening tools to assess malnutrition risk and provide targeted, evidence-based interventions to improve nutritional intake and help prevent or reverse malnutrition.
  • Nutritional Deficiencies: We help identify and address common deficiencies such as iron and vitamin B12, which are especially prevalent in the elderly population due to changes in absorption and intake.
  • Texture Modified Diets: We support clients requiring soft, minced, or pureed diets due to chewing or swallowing difficulties, ensuring meals are nutritionally adequate and in line with their texture modification requirements.
  • Wound Healing: We provide nutrition plans that support skin integrity and promote healing in clients with pressure injuries, ulcers, or surgical wounds.
  • Osteoporosis:  We support bone health through dietary interventions that optimise calcium, vitamin D, and other key nutrients.
  • Sarcopenia: We help prevent and manage age-related muscle loss through adequate protein intake and balanced nutrition to support strength and mobility.
  • Bowel Health: We support older adults with managing common bowel issues such as constipation or diarrhoea by assessing dietary factors and providing practical nutrition strategies to promote regularity and digestive comfort.
  • Hydration: We offer strategies to maintain adequate fluid intake, helping to prevent dehydration, urinary tract infections, and constipation—common concerns in older adults.
